Why install or replace Skylights?

Skylights are Day Lighting systems. As such the installation and maintenace of skylights save energy costs. Older Skylights may be single glazed or single dome. In this case the home owner would be advised to replace the skylights with a more energy effiecient Day lighting system

When does a Skylight need to be replaced?

Just like the tires on your car the seals and glazing materials that prevent skylights from leaking become oxidized and brittle. Acrylic Dome Skylights may become brittle and cracks may develop in the dome after 20years. Most acrylic skylights that we have replaced due to leaking have been on a roof from 20 to 30 years. Flat Glass skylights remain leak free as long as the glass remains intact and the glazing tape remains resilient. Fogging can occur within a Flat glass dual glazed insulated glass panel. Fogging is caused by a vacuum seal failure. Damaged or fogged dual glazed tempered and laminated flat glass Skylight panels can be professionally removed and replaced.
